Storage Planning & Systems Design in Philadelphia, PA

Buying organizing products before understanding the space is one of the easiest ways to waste money. Bins are too deep for the shelf, drawer organizers do not fit the drawer, or a closet system looks perfect online but leaves no room for the clothing it was supposed to hold. The Flow’s Systems Design service reverses that process.

Founder & Chief Designer Erica Ryger Amsinger assesses what needs to be stored, measures the available space and creates the storage plan before products are purchased. That means you know what goes where, what dimensions are required and which storage products make sense before you spend money implementing the system.

Systems Design is especially useful for clients who want professional planning but prefer to do the hands-on setup themselves, as well as anyone preparing to invest in closet components, pantry organizers, shelving or whole-home storage.

Design the Storage System Before You Buy the Storage

Systems Design is the planning layer behind physical organization. Erica begins with the space, the belongings, the amount of each category, frequency of use, accessibility, existing furniture, available dimensions and budget. Only after those factors are understood does the storage layout take shape.

This service is different from home organization, which focuses more on sorting, decluttering and setting up belongings, and from Flow Systems, which focuses on the routines that keep an organized space functioning over time.

What Your Systems Design Plan Can Include

Space Measurements

Shelves, cabinets, closets, drawers and other relevant areas are measured so product recommendations are based on real dimensions rather than assumptions.

Inventory Review

The plan considers not only the size of the storage but what actually needs to fit inside it, how much of each category exists and how frequently those items are used.

Storage Layout

Categories are assigned to appropriate shelves, drawers, rods, hooks or bins according to access and frequency of use. Daily categories stay easy to reach while seasonal or archive items can move farther away.

Visual Mockups

Where useful, mockups help you understand the intended result before implementation and make it easier to compare options.

Recommended Products and Links

Products are selected according to measurements, budget and function. You can review the links before purchasing and compare alternatives if you prefer a different finish, source or price point.

Guaranteed Implementation Estimate

If you decide that you want The Flow to complete the setup, you receive an hourly estimate before hands-on work begins.

Storage Systems We Can Plan

Closet Systems

Reach-in closets, walk-ins, wardrobes and linen closets can be planned around the actual clothing, shoes, accessories, linens or household categories they need to hold. The plan may include hanging zones, shelving, drawers, shoe storage and seasonal rotation without automatically jumping to a costly custom build.

Pantry and Kitchen Storage

Pantry shelves, cabinets and drawers can be organized with appropriately sized risers, dividers, turntables, bins or pull-outs. Product choice follows shelf depth, cabinet width and the categories that actually need storage.

Entryway and Mudroom Storage

Hooks, consoles, shoe cabinets and small storage pieces can create a functional landing zone without crowding the entrance. The plan considers traffic, daily items and available wall or floor space.

Office Storage

Filing, supplies, technology and equipment can be planned as part of office design when the workspace also needs layout and workflow improvements.

Garage and Basement Storage

Shelving, wall rails and labeled zones can organize long-term storage while maintaining safe access and clear walkways.

Whole-Home Storage Planning

Larger homes may benefit from a consistent strategy across several rooms so labels, categories and storage logic do not change completely from one part of the house to another.

Systems Design vs. Home Organization vs. Flow Systems

ServiceMain questionBest for
Home OrganizationWhat should stay, and where should it live?Sorting, decluttering and hands-on organization
Systems DesignWhat storage setup and products will physically fit?Measured storage planning and product selection
Flow SystemsHow will the household keep the setup working?Routines, maintenance and recurring clutter

Many projects may use more than one service, but keeping the distinction clear prevents you from paying for the wrong solution. If the room is full because there are too many belongings, start with organization. If the belongings are staying but the storage is poor, Systems Design is likely the better fit. If the space looks good after organizing but keeps sliding back, the maintenance routine may need a Flow System.

When Systems Design Makes Sense

  • You have purchased organizers that did not fit.
  • You want to improve a closet without committing immediately to a custom build.
  • An awkward room has sloped ceilings, deep corners, radiators or shallow shelves.
  • You are moving and want storage planned before unpacking.
  • You want to implement the organization yourself but need a professional plan.
  • You want to compare products before spending money.
  • Several storage areas need to follow one consistent system.
  • You want to improve existing cabinetry rather than replace it.
  • A pantry, closet or office has plenty of capacity but poor internal layout.
  • You need a clear plan before ordering shelving, drawers or modular components.

Why Clients Use The Flow Before Buying Storage

Measurements Come First

Storage is selected because it fits the space and category, not because it looked useful online.

You Are Not Locked Into Products

You can follow the recommendations, find alternatives or reuse containers and furniture you already own.

Affordable Options Are Considered

The goal is not automatically to recommend expensive custom storage. Modular and existing solutions are considered where they can do the job well.

The Plan Can Stand Alone

You do not have to purchase Full Service implementation. The DIY assessment is intended to be useful on its own.

One Plan Can Connect Several Rooms

Systems Design can establish consistent logic across the home rather than solving one shelf or closet independently.

Storage Planning Throughout Philadelphia

The Flow works with urban condos, rowhomes, historic houses and larger suburban properties throughout Philadelphia and surrounding communities. View the Areas page for local service information and neighborhood-specific content.

FAQs

Systems Design FAQs

What does storage planning include?

Depending on the project, it can include measurements, inventory review, storage layout, mockups, product recommendations, product links and a guaranteed estimate for optional implementation.

Can you design a closet system?

Yes. Closet storage can be planned according to the dimensions of the closet and the wardrobe it needs to hold, including rods, shelves, drawers, shoe storage and accessories.

Do I have to buy the products you recommend?

No. Product links are recommendations. You can purchase those items, compare alternatives or reuse storage you already own.

Is this the same as using a custom closet company?

Can I implement the plan myself?

Yes. That is exactly what the DIY Design Assessment is designed for.

How is Systems Design different from Flow Systems?

Plan Before You Purchase

Good organization does not begin in the storage aisle. It begins by understanding what needs to be stored, where it belongs and exactly how much space is available. A measured plan helps you buy less, choose better and avoid forcing the wrong product into the right home.
