Spatial / Space Design in Philadelphia, PA

Layout and storage planning for Philadelphia homes and offices, so every room works as well as it looks.

Erica Ryger Amsinger, Founder and Chief Designer of The Flow, plans how a space is arranged around the way you move, store and work in it.

What it is

Designing spaces that work beautifully

Many rooms are furnished well but planned poorly: the storage is in the wrong place, the walkway is blocked, or the room is asked to do more than its layout allows. Spatial design deals with that. Erica looks at the room, what you keep in it and how you use it, then designs a layout and storage plan that fits.

Her goal is inexpensive, sustainable, high-function design for your home or office, whether it's one room or the whole house.

What a space design plan covers

What goes into planning a room

01

Layout

Where things sit and how you move through the room, based on how the space is actually used.

02

Storage

Storage placed where you need it, with links to suggested storage products so you can see the plan before you buy.

03

Routine

A design that supports your daily habits, so the room stays orderly after the project is done.

Related services: interior design, home organization and office design.

Is it time?

Signs a room needs spatial design

  • The room looks fine but feels awkward to use.
  • Furniture or storage blocks the way you walk through the space.
  • Things pile up because they have no logical home.
  • A room has to serve more than one purpose, such as a guest room that doubles as an office.
  • Your household or work has changed, and the room hasn't.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What is spatial design?

It is planning how a room is laid out and stored: where things go, how you move through the space, and what the room needs to do for you. At The Flow, that plan comes from a home visit and your actual routine.

Is spatial design the same as home organization?

They overlap but aren't the same. Spatial design focuses on layout and storage planning for the room as a whole. Home organization focuses on setting up closets, pantries and everyday storage. Many projects use both.

How much does a space design project cost?

The DIY Design Assessment is $200. The Full Service Design is $200 plus $50 per hour, and storage products are an additional cost. Both come with a guaranteed hourly estimate.

Can you redesign one room, or do you work on whole homes?

Both. Erica works on single rooms and on entire homes.
